I do recall driving there then back to Las Vegas on the same day. I am wondering if simply spending an afternoon there is enough?
We'll just be driving from one lookout point to another and visit some souvenir stores I imagine. I did just that a week ago with a visiting family member who had never been to AZ. I mean it's not ideal, but if that's all the time you have, and it's on your way Where will you be driving from anyway?
Maybe we can help you with the best route and stops, etc. I will be driving there from Page, AZ. That's just what we did, only we went back to Sedona after GC. Large selection of Native American crafts and souvenirs. Then turn onto Hwy 64 and drive several miles to the Nat'l Park entrance station. They'll give you brochures which include maps of the park. Just after the entrance station get your first view of the canyon at Desert View Watchtower. You'll just have to see how much time you have left to visit these various sites.
Then wind your way around to the south entrance station and drive out of the Park straight towards Williams and I As this one day drive is about miles, try to get an early start. I imagine you'll get to Las Vegas after dark. I highly recommend at least getting onto I before dark.
The section from GC to I is extremely dark and you really have to watch out for wildlife. Also watch the weather. There's already been snow up there. On the slim chance of an active snowstorm that day, you may have to be flexible with your plans. I don't know what the Park's snowplowing process is. Call for current Park road conditions. My first ever visit to the Grand Canyon was just such a visit and by far the most memorable.
Take some time to walk between some of the overlooks on the Rim Trail if you can. Janss just laid out a perfect, doable plan. In fact, we will be doing the same one next week. We will be in Flagstaff for Lowell Observatory and will head out to the canyon the next morning entering exactly as she described befor heading to Sedona.
In fact we have done this several times. We are admittedly in love with the GC and we can't seem to pass an opportunity to go whether over night or a few hours. Maswik Lodge. Bright Angel Lodge. Kachina Lodge. Phantom Ranch. Mather Campground. Thunderbird Lodge. View all hotels. Top questions about Grand Canyon National Park. Which rim should I visit? North, South or West?
